Worry is a Thief! Would you invite a thief to live with you?

"Do not anticipate trouble
or worry about
what may never happen.
Keep in the sunlight.”
Benjamin Franklin

It amazes me how many people do! They come in to my Hypnosis office and complain about this Thief, but yet it’s one they personally invited and have been making the Thief welcome for a very long time.

Who is this Thief?
The Thief’s name is WORRY! If you didn’t already know this, let me explain it to you. Worry is a THIEF! Worry steals your time when you could be doing something constructive.

Worry steals your:
• Joy
• Energy
• Sleep
• Peace of mind.

And yet, many people seem to take pride in being a “Worrier”. Have you ever known someone – maybe the person you see in the mirror – who seems to take such pride in being a “worrier”? In my Hypnosis / Coaching practice, I’ve had people tell me they are the “Worrier of the Family” or they’re a worrier because it’s genetic.

Using Hypnosis / NLP to Replace Fear with Confidence!

Hypnosis / NLP are great tools when you are ready to let go of fear and replace it with confidence! Whether a fear of snakes or a fear of public speaking
“The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free.”  --
Oprah Winfrey

Hypnosis / NLP are great tools when you are ready to let go of fear and replace it with confidence!  Whether a fear of snakes or a fear of public speaking
Do you know what the most common fear in America is?  Confidence in public speaking.   This affects people from all ages and walks of life – young children, students, professionals, athletes, business people, – nearly everyone!

And the second one – fear of snakes!
What are some other fears that children – and adults- face?
Fear of Thunder / lightening / storms
Fear of Flying in airplanes
Fear of Heights
Fear of Bugs – spiders, roaches, crawly things
Fear of Snakes
Fear of Needles / medical procedures
Fear of Driving on highways
Fear of Elevators, escalators, stairs
Fear of Crowds of people, social situations
Fear of Animals – especially big dogs
Fear of Failure and yes, even fear of Success
Fear of being hurt by love
And these are just a few fears I’ve helped people overcome!  And there are MANY more!

Using Hypnosis /NLP to help people overcome every day common fears can be very effective in building the person’s confidence so they can face fears without feeling out of control or worried about being embarrassed.  I help my clients in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex – and beyond - replace fear with confidence!

What about phobias?  I don’t work with phobias – that’s a psychological condition – much rarer than you may think.  Many people use the word “phobia” when they really mean “fear”.  Or in their mind they blow it all out of proportion to the point it seems like a phobia.

Three Little Words that Keep an Athlete from Confident Sports Performance

"The significant
problems we face
cannot be solved
at the same level
of thinking
we were at
when we
created them."

Albert Einstein

It amazes me how many athletes call me to discuss Sports Hypnosis and the conversation starts off with, “Coach, my problem is.” Or “Coach, I have a problem!”
It doesn’t matter whether it's’ for golf, tennis, hockey, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, body building, MMA or any other sport, they seem to all start off with the same first few words.

Before we even get into a discussion about what the problem is they’re calling about, I interrupt. And if you call, I’ll do the same with you!
Not because I’m being rude, but the Coaching / Sports Hypnosis starts during the initial contact, usually within the first 2 – 3 minutes, if not sooner.
Here’s how the conversation continues:

Coach – “YOUR problem?” I ask with an incredulous tone of voice.

Athlete – Usually says something like “What? Uh yeah, my problem is.”
Coach -- Before they get out another word, I interrupt again, “I don’t understand. Why would you be telling me about something you want to keep? I thought you were calling for Sports Hypnosis and wanted some help from me”

Athlete – A little bewildered, “Keep? No, I don’t want to keep it. And I was calling you for Sports Hypnosis so you could help me get rid of my problem.”

Gizer's Story - Teaching Children (and Adults) how to deal with Fears

In order to help my Dallas / Fort Worth (and beyond) Hypnosis / NLP clients – young and old to Overcome Fears and develop Confidence, I enlisted the aid of Gizer, a very wise, furry, four legged friend from a few years back.

This is a story about Gizer and how Gizer helped some of his Young Friends remove some FEARS that were bothering them.

Maybe you’ve had some Fears bothering you too and after you listen to this story, maybe a few times or maybe several times, I think you will find that it helps you as well as it did Gizer’s friends.

So let’s get started, one day Gizer . . .

One day Gizer decided he wanted to go to visit his friends at the Zoo.
Now right away, you may be wondering who is Gizer. Gizer is a very old Dog who has lots of friends. He has lots of Dog friends of course. He has Cat friends, Bird friends, Squirrel friends, and many other Animal friends. And he also has People friends too – Girls and Boys, and Mommies and Daddies, GrandParents friends, Uncle and Aunt friends, and even Teacher friends.
And who are his friends he goes to visit at the Zoo?
They’re Young Animal Friends who all play together in a special area for Young Zoo Animals. Sometimes they play in a park and sometimes they go to school together. Sometimes Gizer is invited to teach classes at their school, but today he just went to visit them in the park where they play.
When he got there, he was very surprised to find them all sitting around looking worried, sad, and well, just not happy.
He asked them why they were looking this way – worried, sad, and well, just not happy.
Bob the Bear answered first. He said they were having a really good time playing and all of a sudden a mouse had run out and scared Ellie the Elephant and some of the older animal kids – who were Bullies, started making fun of her for being afraid of a mouse and then Ellie started crying.
Then Maria the Monkey, who was afraid of Bullies got scared because she saw them being mean to Ellie for being afraid of a mouse and she was afraid they would start being mean to her too.
But when LeBron the Lion saw that Ellie and Maria were afraid of the Bullies, he went over and stood beside Ellie and Maria. And the Bullies left!
And then several of the young ZOO Animal Children started thinking about things they were afraid of and they just all sat down together and started talking about FEARS and being Afraid. And the more they talked about FEARS and being Afraid, the more afraid and sad and unhappy they were.
Gizer looked at them and said “How interesting!”
Gizer said that a lot when he wanted to make a point. Why? Because when you say “how interesting”, it seems to get people’s attention.
All the Zoo Animal Children gathered around Gizer to find out what he thought was so interesting.
When they did, he asked them if anyone was afraid of anything else besides mice and bullies.

Using Hypnosis to Help a Baseball Player Stop Wetting His Bed.

“No matter how good you are,
you're going to lose
one-third of your games.
No matter how bad you are
you're going to win
one-third of your games.
It's the other third
that makes the difference.”
Tommy Lasorda

First thing to realize, he’s probably embarrassed to be talking about it anyway.  Facing the embarrassment of the thought that his teammates may tease him and his friends might make fun of him. And it took courage for him to consider Hypnosis for help with this problem.

Now, let’s talk about Blaine, a young athlete, the bed wetting baseball player and how Hypnosis helped him. Blaine is nine years old. He loves baseball! He would love to go to sports camps and spend nights at his friend’s house, but can’t. He’s afraid he’ll be embarrassed the next morning.

His Mother called me and asked if I could help him using Hypnosis. She liked the way I explained how we would be working on SELF TALK, Self Hypnosis, and CONFIDENCE in all areas to help Blaine move beyond this problem. I asked her to make a sentence, using the word “problem” in it to tell me what we would be working with.

She said, “Blaine’s problem is he wets his bed.” I suggested, “instead of saying ‘Blaine’s’ problem, how about saying ‘THE’ PROBLEM. I helped her understand that when she said “Blaine’s problem” she was making it more difficult for him to get past the problem.

Why would this make it more difficult?  Simple logic!  When we say ‘my problem’ we’re saying it belongs to us. Anything that ‘belongs’ to us, the SubConscious Mind wants to keep and get more of.

Sports Hypnosis – Golfers and Other Athletes – What is Your “Ability” level?

And with some practice, he began to imagine himself enjoying golf more and playing better. He even imagined how he would feel when he won in a charity golf tournament his company sponsors each year.

“Without continual
growth and progress,
such words
as improvement,
achievement,
and success
have no meaning.”
Benjamin Franklin

Sean, one of my local Dallas / Fort Worth SportsHypnosis / NLP clients – a golfer – came in for his visit last week.  We’ve been working on building up his Confidence on the golf course.

He asked me if I remembered a question he asked during his first session. He had asked several questions, as most people do, and even though I was pretty sure I knew which question he was referring to, I asked him to remind me.

He laughed and continued filling out his progress report. That’s how we start our visits. Each of my clients fills out a “progress” report. It tells me what tools they’ve been using that I taught them, how the tools are helping, and what progress they’ve noticed.

Some of the progress will be directly related to the work we’re doing, in Sean’s case, lowering his golf score, and some may be in areas they weren’t expecting, but are glad for anyway.

And of course, they tell me if they’re listening to the Hypnosis CDs I give them and what benefit they’re getting from the Hypnosis CDs.

Now first, you may have noticed we’re discussing a “PROGRESS” report. It’s called that for a reason, and the word “Progress” is in the title at the top of the page.

I could just ask “how are you doing?”, but I’ve found that the word “Progress” moves the mind into thinking in that direction. And they know that each time they come to visit, there will be a new “Progress” report and more “Progress” will be discussed – setting up the expectation of making positive changes.

GOLFERS AVOID THESE SEVEN MENTAL HAZARDS

"Of all the hazards,

fear is the worst."

Sam Snead

From my experience as a professional Sports Hypnotist with an NGH Golf Specialist Certification, I’ve noticed that out of all my athletes from various sports, Golfers are the ones who are most acquainted with the idea of mental training, but very few Golfers utilize it anywhere near as much as they should. Most Golfers seem to make these same seven Mental Hazards over and over.

Ridding your Mind of these Mental Hazards can really elevate your game. Imagine if you just focused on getting rid of one at a time, and each time you did, you took 1 or 2 strokes off your game! Or you could hold onto these Hazards and keep complaining about your score. The choice is up to you!

Let’s see what they are and how to correct them.

1 – Fear, Hesitation, and Doubt are the triplets of negative thinking. There’s one word that counteracts all of them – Confidence! When you’re playing with Confidence, and if you’re not, pretend you are, then those negative words will lose their impact. We’re born with natural Confidence. You ever see a baby learning to walk? He has no doubt that one day he’s going to be walking just like those giants around him. And nothing is going to stop him from learning how to walk! That’s the kind of Confidence to have – nothing is going to stop you! Play Fearless golf!

Sports Hypnosis -- Bears, Sleep, and Athletes. What’s the Connection?

“The greatest achievements
were at first
and for a time dreams.
The oak sleeps in the acorn.”
James Allen

What’s the connection between Athletes and Bears?  Bears instinctively know how to sleep!  As do most animals of course.  They know how to turn off the worry button, or just the active mind.

Bears hibernate.  Now we’re not going to hibernate like bears, but an Athlete needs to be able to get a great night’s sleep to restore energy, and to allow both the body and the mind to relax and restore.

If the body is not relaxed properly and given a chance to rest, then the Athlete is not going to be able to maximize their ability to play their sport.  And every Athlete has dreams and goals and want to be recognized for their achievements.  Without the ability to get a good restful Sleep, those dreams and goals are going to be much more difficult to achieve!  And Sports Hypnosis can help the Athlete to drift off to sleep and get a good night's sleep.

It doesn’t matter whether you play or participate in:
golf
hockey
football
baseball
basketball
soccer
martial arts
body building
or any other sport
You need to be properly rested – especially before a major tournament or sporting event!  If you’re not properly rested – physically and mentally – then you’re not going to be giving your best sports performance.

And if an Athlete’s mind is not allowed some down time to process the daily stress, then the Athlete is not going to be as mentally sharp as needed to play their best either.  Lack of sleep will interfere with an Athlete’s ability to Focus.

The biggest problems Athletes tell me about sleep is they have trouble turning their mind off.  About the time they’re ready to go to sleep, they begin to think about practice, the next game, the next big test, their girlfriend / boyfriend, how early they have to get up, paying bills – so many things that just keeps them awake!

And what does the Athlete ask him/herself when sleep just won’t come?

Can Sports Hypnosis help prevent Sports Injuries?

"The secret of health for both mind and body
is not to mourn for the past,
not to worry about the future,
or not to anticipate troubles,
but to live in the present moment
wisely and earnestly."
The Buddha

A couple of years ago, I worked with a college football player. He wanted to get the advantage Sports Performance Hypnosis would help him with his sport.

We did some work for focus and confidence, but one area he especially wanted work with was the fear that he would be reinjured.

The previous year, he had been out most of the season with an injury and since then, he was overly cautious about any injury that would keep him from playing.  It was making him miserable.  He was very unhappy!

Now naturally, being overly cautious would not allow him to play the aggressive way a football player, or an athlete for that matter, should play their sport.

He was all stressed out and having trouble sleeping.  And if an athlete doesn’t get adequate sleep, they can’t play their best!  The body and mind needs that restorative sleep to be able to have the energy to perform.

His college Football Coach recommended Hypnosis to help him reduce stress and to sleep better.

When he contacted me and found out I did Sports Performance Hypnosis he was very excited! Tackle the worry monster and increase focus and confidence using Hypnosis together would be ideal!

It didn’t take long for him to realize he was in the right place!

He even got to the point that he was concerned about non-injury health related issues were worrying him. He was concerned about his heartbeat. He worried that a headache could be the sign of a brain tumor.  He thought a cold was the beginning of the flu, which of course would turn into pneumonia, which would lead to his death.
